{"id":344,"date":"2014-03-03T23:15:49","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T23:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.avacon.org\/blog\/?p=344"},"modified":"2014-06-19T10:52:42","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T10:52:42","slug":"cincinnatidayton-vr-meetup-a-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.avacon.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/cincinnatidayton-vr-meetup-a-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Cincinnati\/Dayton VR Meetup A Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">On Friday, February 28, 2014, AvaCon Vice President Chris Collins (Avatar: Fleep Tuque) attended the <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Cincinnati-Dayton-Virtual-Reality\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati\/Dayton Virtual Reality Meetup<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">.\u00c2\u00a0The meetup featured demos of the Oculus Rift, Durovis Dive, Razer Hydra, zSpace, CAVE, Leap Motion, Nvis HMDs, 3D projection systems, and a variety of virtual environments, VR software and platforms, and other related technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3724\/12869826634_052ab14d7d.jpg\" alt=\"Hardware demos\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was surprised at how well attended the meetup was, there were visitors from all over the region, including a lady who travelled all the way from Ann Arbor, MI,&#8221; said Chris. \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;There were students and academics from area schools and universities, of course, but also people from industry like GE and P&amp;G, as well as plenty of hobbyists and gamers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3799\/12869810334_dbc1165c81.jpg\" alt=\"Checking out VR systems hardware\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7401\/12869469843_ea2cfeec0c.jpg\" alt=\"the CAVE\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with colleagues from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uc.edu\/cap.html\" target=\"_blank\">University of Cincinnati Center for Cognition, Action, &amp; Perception<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cincinnatichildrens.org\/service\/s\/sports-medicine\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Children&#8217;s Hospital Medical Center TEAM VR Lab<\/a>, Chris demoed the Oculus Rift and showcased \u00c2\u00a0a few recent projects being developed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/ucsim.uc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">University of Cincinnati Center for Simulations &amp; Virtual Environments Research<\/a>, including environmental models that will be used for pediatric sports therapy and basic research. \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;Many people hadn&#8217;t yet experienced the Rift, so it was fun to see their reaction for the first time,&#8221;
