It also has an optional facility (the\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Hypergrid\" href=\"http:\/\/opensimulator.org\/wiki\/Hypergrid\">Hypergrid<\/a>) to allow users to visit other OpenSimulator installations across the web from an account on a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dchome\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 OpenSimulator installation.<\/p>\n<p>OpenSimulator allows virtual world developers to customize their worlds using the technologies they feel work best \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the framework is designed to be easily extensible. OpenSimulator is written in\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecma-international.org\/publications\/standards\/Ecma-334.htm\" rel=\"nofollow\">C#<\/a>, running both on Windows over the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/net\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">.NET Framework<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and on Unix-like machines over the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mono-project.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mono<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0framework. The source code is released under a\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"BSD License\" href=\"http:\/\/opensimulator.org\/wiki\/BSD_License\">BSD License<\/a>, a commercially friendly license to embed OpenSimulator in products.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the box, OpenSimulator can be used to simulate virtual environments similar to\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondlifegrid.net\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Second Life\u00e2\u201e\u00a2<\/a>, however,\u00c2\u00a0the project pursues innovative feature development with an aspiration of becoming the bare bones, but extensible, server of the 3D Web.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 1.17em;\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m interested in being a speaker, where do I sign up?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The conference will have six \u00e2\u20ac\u0153tracks\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to cluster break-out sessions into common areas of interest, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/arts-creativity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arts &amp; Creativity<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/business-enterprise\/\" target=\"_blank\">Business &amp; Enterprise<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/developers-open-source\/\" target=\"_blank\">Developers &amp; Open Source<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\">Education<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\">Research<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conference.opensimulator.org\/2013\/call-for-contributions\/social-community\/\" target=\"_blank\">Social &amp; Communities<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each track may have different requirements in their Call for Speakers, so please be sure to view the specific pages for each track you may be interested in. \u00c2\u00a0<strong>All speaker proposals are due on July 1, 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m interested in being a sponsor, where do I sign up?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Although the\u00c2\u00a0<strong>OpenSimulator Community Conference<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0is being held in virtual space, and made possible by hardware donations and by dozens of volunteers, the conference incurs some expenses, in particular the professionally-managed operation of the conference center grid (the setup, performance tuning, and constant monitoring are of utmost importance for the success of the conference)\u00c2\u00a0and the streaming services and other web services. Compared to real-world conferences, the budget of a virtual event like the OpenSimulator Community Conference is very modest, but, nevertheless, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not zero.
